1. PlayOlu's safety promise

PlayOlu is built from the ground up for kids newborn to twelve. That means we make different choices than most apps. Kids see no advertisements. Kids don't talk to strangers. Kids never see a "buy" button. Parents stay in control of profile, language, age band, and data — and can delete everything in one click.

2. COPPA, GDPR-K, and POPIA compliance

We've designed PlayOlu around three children's-privacy frameworks: COPPA (US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act), GDPR-K(EU children's data rules), and POPIA (South Africa Protection of Personal Information Act).

What we collect from parents: email address (when you join the waitlist or create an account), country (derived from your IP, never stored as a full address), and signup timestamp.

What we collect from kids: nothing personal. Kid profiles are created by parents and contain only a chosen first name and an age band. We do not collect last names, addresses, photos, school details, location, or biometric data. No voice recording, no face filters.

3. No ads. No chat. No kid-facing purchases.

We've seen what the "kids app" category looks like at scale: dark patterns, surprise paywalls, ads dressed up as gameplay, chat features that get abused. PlayOlu refuses all of that.

• No ads — zero advertising surfaces, zero third-party ad networks.
• No chat — no free-form messaging between users, no AI chat for kids.
• No kid-facing purchases — the kid app has no "buy" button. All purchases are made by parents in a separate parent-gated flow.
• Coins are earned, never bought — children earn coins by playing and learning, then spend them on cosmetic rewards inside PlayOlu. Real money never touches the kid experience.

4. Parental controls

Parents own the account. From the parent dashboard, parents can:

• Add, edit, or remove kid profiles (up to four per family)
• Change a child's language at any time
• See what games and stories have been played
• Export all data we hold about the family
• Permanently delete the account — irrevocable, processed within 7 days

For data deletion or export, email privacy@playolu.comand we'll action it within 7 days.

5. Content standards

Every game and story is curated by us — not algorithmically surfaced. Our rules: no violence (cartoon scuffles fine; weapons, blood, death are not), no scary content, no targeted advertising, no content stereotyping cultures or genders. African folktales are sourced and adapted with care for cultural accuracy.

6. Reporting a safety concern

If something on PlayOlu worries you — content that slipped through, a bug that exposed data, a kid behaviour we should know about — email safety@playolu.com. We read these within 24 hours and respond same-day for anything urgent.

We treat this page as a living document. As regulations evolve and as PlayOlu adds features, we'll update it. The "Last updated" date above will always reflect the most recent revision, and any material change gets emailed to every parent on the account.
